Safety Tax Passing by 52 Percent

San Juan County San Juan County – Proposition No. 1, “Concerning the imposition of a sales and use tax for criminal justice and public safety purposes,” was passing by 195 votes as of last night’s vote count.

As of 8:12 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, August 7, there were 4,258 total ballots counted.

The vote on proposition No. 1 is 2,140 in favor, or 52.39%. Those voting to reject the measure were 1,945 or 47.61%.

There are an estimated 1,500 ballots left to count. The next tally will be at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8.

There are 11,624 registered voters in San Juan County. As of 8 p.m. August 7, there was 36.63% voter turnout.
