The top vote-getter between O’Brien and Vandermay will be seated in Position #1 of the potential Parks and Recreation Junior Taxing District.

At the San Juan County Council’s Aug. 25 meeting, the Council accepted the petition proposing the formation of an Orcas Island Parks and Recreation District for the November ballot. If the District formation is approved by the voters, the elected Commissioners will then propose a taxing structure and policies for the Rec District.

The creation of an Orcas Island Rec District, led by such a highly qualified and committed Board of Commissioners will create solid community programs for Orcas Island youth, adults and families. Good job!
