UPDATE to Saturday story: Elwha running two hours late due to ‘cleanup on the car deck’

— from Washington State Ferries —

Vessel #1 Elwha is running an estimated two hours behind schedule due to a necessary cleanup on the car deck. This delays the 8:55 p.m. from Anacortes to Shaw and Orcas, and the 7:50 p.m. and 10:05 p.m. from Orcas to Anacortes.  We apologize for the inconvenience.

UPDATE: Orcas Issues has been advised that the “cleanup on the dark deck” involved livestock that were being hauled in a truck. Safety requirements consider that sort of material as hazardous. They have a point.

Curious how it can take two hours to clean a car deck spill.

Gail Glass

What exactly was spilled? Who can answer this?

It would certainly be a great public service if someone associated with the Washington State Ferry system could explain to us why the San Juan ferries have been perpetually running late for the last couple of months. The almost-daily “bulletins” that one or more of our ferries is “running late” have become laughably frustrating. If the vessels are too old or too poorly staffed or too infrequently maintained to keep to the existing schedule, then why not revise the danged schedule? I know I’m missing something…what is it?

Gail, Do you really want to know???

So let me get this straight.

It took 2 hours to clean up some livestock shi*?

I’ve got an unpaid 10 year old and a 7 year old that can muck out 2 horse stalls and 2 chicken coops in just under 30 minutes.

I don’t think I’m buying the excuse for this 2 hour delay.
